In the Name of God Amen
I JOHN GIBBARD of Sharnbrook in the County of Bedford Clerk do make publish and declare my last Will and Testament in manner following

First I do hereby ratify and confirm the Settlement made on my marriage with my dear wife ANNE GIBBARD whereby the Sum of one thousand pounds was and is settled upon and to the several trusts and purposes therein mentioned and which said Sum of one thousand pounds the Trustees in such Settlement made permitted to remain with me and the same remains in my hands   I do therefore will and direct my Executor hereinafter named immediately after my decease out of my personal Estate to pay to pay the said sum of One thousand pounds unto the Trustees in such Settlement mentioned upon the Trusts and for the purposes therein expressed and declared concerning the same 

Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife the Sum of fifty pounds my Gold Watch half of my Plate Linen China Wine and other Liquors and also half of my other household Furniture

Also I give unto WILLIAM SPENSER the Parish Clerk according to the will and direction of my Executor one Coat waistcoat and Breeches and also Shoes Stocking six shirts with the [Neckcloths] and also the Sum of Five pounds in Money

Also I give and bequeath unto my Nephew JOHN GIBBARD the only Son of my Brother WILLIAM GIBBARD the Sum of One hundred pounds and to my Nieces HANNAH and ELIZABETH GIBBARD the Daughters of my said Brother WILLIAM GIBBARD the Sum of One thousand pounds each and to my Niece SUSANNAH GIBBARD the other Daughter of my said Brother the sum of Five hundred pounds the same several Legacies to my said Nephew and Nieces to be paid to them when and as they respectively attain the age of twenty one years and the same several Legacies together with the several next hereinafter mentioned I will and direct be paid out of my personal Estate within six months after my decease

Also I give and bequeath to my cousin MARTHA CLARIDGE Twenty pounds To MRS LORD of Drayton Parslow and to her Son the Revd JAMES LORD To my Cousins JOHN HIRONS  JOHN CLARIDGE  ANNE WILLIAMS  ANNE DAVIS  and FANNY [ROYATT] the Sum of Ten pounds each

Also I give unto my Servant ANNE EVANS the Sum of Ten pounds  Also I give unto the poor of Sharnbrook the Sum of Ten pounds to be distributed on the day of my Funeral to such persons and in such manner and proportion as my said Wife shall please or think fit

  And I give devise and bequeath unto my said Nephew JOHN GIBBARD all and every my Manors Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments situate lying and being in the Parish of Sharnbrook aforesaid or elsewhere in the County of Bedford and lately purchased by me of and conveyed to me by WILLIAM BULLOCK Esq. To hold the same Manors Hereditaments and Premises unto and to the use of my said Nephew JOHN GIBBARD his heirs and assigns for ever but charged and chargeable subject and liable nevertheless to the payment of the several Annuities or yearly sums of money as hereinafter given devised or mentioned and also to the several Legacies or Sums of Money hereinafter given and bequeathed expressed or mentioned to my said Nieces HANNAH  ELIZABETH and SUSANNAH GIBBARD namely I give bequeath and devise to my said Wife one annuity or yearly sum of One hundred pounds  to be Issuing and payable out of my said Manors Hereditaments and Premises for and during the term of her natural life by four equal and quarterly payments that is to say Lady Day  Midsummer Day  Michaelmas Day and Christmas Day the first of which quarterly payments to be made on such of the said Days as shall happen next after my decease and the same annuity to be issuing and paid or payable free and clear of all deductions and Outgoings whatsoever

Also I give devise and bequeath to my Cousins RICHARD and EDMUND GIBBARD  ANN THOMSON  EMMA RICHARDS and EMMA FOWLER Widows an annuity or yearly sum of Five pounds to each of them during their and each of their natural Lives and after the decease of my said Wife and not before I give and bequeath unto my said Niece HANNAH GIBBARD the further Sum or Legacy of One thousand pounds and to my said Niece ELIZABETH GIBBARD the further Sum of One thousand pounds And to my said Niece SUSANNAH GIBBARD the further Sum of One thousand and five hundred pounds the said last mentioned several Legacies to be charged or chargeable upon my said Manors Hereditaments and premises and to be paid to them respectively in this manner to my Nieces HANNAH and ELIZABETH as soon as possible after the decease of my said Wife and to my Niece SUSANNAH when she attains the age of twenty one years if my said Wife should be then Dead 

And as to all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Estates whatsoever as well Freehold Leasehold and Personal Estate Chattels and Effects I give devise and bequeath the same and every part or parcel thereofunto my Brother the said WILLIAM GIBBARD To hold unto and to the use of him my said Brother WILLIAM GIBBARD his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever And lastly I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Brother WILLIAM GIBBARD the sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament  And I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament written with mine own Hand and contained in two Sheets of Paper to the first of which at the bottom I have set my hand and to this second sheet I have set my hand and seal this twelfth day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three – JOHN GIBBARD – Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Testator JOHN GIBBARD as and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other and at his request have subscribed our Names as Witnesses – WILLIAM SCRIVENERGEORGE CHURCHJAMES BROWN

 

Whereas I have in the 20th and 21st line of the first Sheet of this my last Will and Testament given unto my Servant ANNE EVANS the Sum of Ten pounds now I do by this Codicil entirely annul and make void that Legacy instead of which I give and bequeath unto the said ANNE EVANS One Annuity or yearly sum of Five pounds to be paid to her in the same manner and time which I have directed my other Annuities to be paid out of the Estate which I purchased of WILLIAM BULLOCK Esq.  Witness my hand this 15th Day of January 1794 – JOHN GIBBARD

I JOHN GIBBARD of Sharnbrook Clerk do make this further Codicil to my last Will and Testament dated the 15th Day of January 1794 whereas I have in my said Will given unto my Wife amongst other things the Sum of Fifty pounds I now do by this present Codicil annul the said Sum of Fifty pounds instead of which I give unto her the Sum of Two hundred pounds Also I give unto THOMAS ABRAHAM and MARTHA EDEN my Servants the Sum of Five pounds each and I do hereby ratify and confirm my above Will and Codicil  Witness my hand this 11th day of October 1796 – JOHN GIBBARD  Witness GEORGE CHURCH

This Will was proved at London with two Codicils the twenty third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six before the Worshipful John Sewell Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of WILLIAM GIBBERD otherwise GIBBARD the Brother of the deceased and sole Executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to Administer
