The last Will and Testament of me SARAH ROADS of Middle Claydon in the County of Bucks Widow made whilst I was of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding (praised be Almighty God for the same) the twenty first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred seventy one First I recommend by Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator in hopes of a Joyful Resurrection in and through the Merits and Intercession of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and as touching such worldly Estate as the Lord in Mercy hath lent me my Will and meaning is the same shall be employed and bestowed as hereinafter by this my Will is expressed I will and desire that all my Just Debts Funeral and Testamentary Expenses shall be paid and discharged and after payment thereof then I give and bequeath unto and amongst my three Daughters namely ELIZABETH the Wife of JOHN CLARKE MARY the Wife of THOMAS FOUNTAIN and ALICE the Wife of THOMAS IRONS all my wearing apparel of what sort soever equally to be divided between them Share and Share alike Also I give devise and bequeath unto my son EMANUEL ROADS all that my Cottage or Tenement with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate and being in Steeple Claydon in the said County of Bucks late in the Tenure or occupation of JOHN LADYMAN and now in the Tenure or occupation of THOMAS STEVENS Carpenter to hold the said Cottage or Tenement and premises with the appurtenances unto and to the use of my said Son EMANUEL ROADS his heirs and assigns for ever all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Goods Chattels Credits Effects and Estates whatsoever both Real and Personal I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said Son EMANUEL ROADS whom I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking disannulling and making all former and other Will or Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this and none other to be my last Will and Testament only In Testimony whereof I the said SARAH ROADS the Testatrix have hereunto set my hand and Seal the day and year first above written – SARAH ROADS her Mark X – Signed sealed pronounced and declared by the above name SARAH ROADS the Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other – STEPHEN GIBBS –MARY GALE – MARY RICHARDS

This Will was proved at London the tenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five before the Worshipful George Harris Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of EMANUEL ROADS the Son of the deceased and the Sole Executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased he having been first sworn duly to administer
